The program, which runs after school, is targeted at K een and Able Mathematics learners, providing them with greater insight into the world of Mathematics, enriching their knowledge in areas such as Number Theory, Combinatorics, Geometry, Algebra and Proofs. KAble is a very rewarding program for those involved and exposes them to areas of Mathematics they might otherwise never encounter. They discussed their current projects, their findings and what drove them to these fields of work. Following this the students visited and toured working research labs, stepping into the spaces where tissue was being grown. Under microscopes they were able to examine liver and blood cells. The day included conversations with survivors of prostate and breast cancer who bravely shared their stories and encouraged our students to ask questions. The day concluded with two guest speakers, Professor Mark Rosenthal and Professor David Vaux who explored the complexity of research and whether it actually uncovers viable and successful treatments. Both explained CAR T cells, the history and chemistry behind them and how researchers are manipulating them to fight cancer. Overall the day was informative, educational, fun, and very inspiring.

But by applying a bit of game theory — where mathematics is used to understand interactions between independent decision makers — we may be able to think through our choices in a clearer, or at least more logical, way. The strategies that we adopt in our real-life relationships can be explained, according to game theorists, by computer models that predict how to get the most from your interactions with others.
But, like with all human behaviours, a complicated mix of toing and froing means the best strategies often go in and out of fashion. Game theorists have shown that if two people knew their relationship would be short, they were more likely to cheat. If, on the other hand, the relationship had no forseeable end, they tended to cooperate. Game theorists have been applying their work to relationships for decades. Political scientist Robert Axelrod popularised some early experiments in his book Evolution of Cooperation.
However, applying theoretical computer models to complicated human interactions is imperfect when the models might not be realistic enough.
